Public Space Projects

In 2018, the Village Board created a public space council to help guide the way public spaces are designed and maintained. The group helped to oversee the design of the new Riverwalk. Phase one which was dedicated to the Village on Halloween.

The Public Space Council advises the Board of Trustees on ways to enhance public space, including parks; recreational facilities; streets and sidewalks; wayfinding; restoration and revitalization of underutilized sites; connectivity; protection of historical and scenic resources. The strategies offered to the Trustees explicitly address the goal of drawing the community together using public space as a canvas for the arts, festivals and cultural events, as stated in the Comprehensive Plan. Strategies should motivate businesses to locate in Sleepy Hollow and attract visitors to the region. The Village values the importance of managing public space in a manner that is mindful of sustainability and conservation, another goal underscored in the Comprehensive Plan.
